The TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is the largest sporting event in Africa and the third largest football competition in the world after the FIFA World Cup and the UEFA European Championship. TotalEnergies is the title sponsor of the tournament as part of its eight-year partnership agreement with the Confederation Africaine de Football (CAF). Like the Total CHAN 2020, the TotalEnergies AFCON 2021 will take place in Cameroon.
This will be the 33rd edition of the TotalEnergies AFCON, the second organized by Cameroon after the 1972 edition (won that year by Congo). 24 teams will try to win the so desired trophy among which Algeria, the title holder and the host country, Cameroon.
51 teams participated in the elimination phase initiated in October 2019 and 24 of them will have the opportunity to win the trophy.
14 countries already tasted the joy of winning the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations. Egypt leads the way with seven wins, followed by Cameroon with five titles and Ghana (4 titles). Will the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations, Cameroon 2021 see one of these 14 countries expand its record or will a 15th selection add its name to the prestigious list of winners like Senegal, unfortunate finalist of the last edition.
